STAY CLEAN, SMARTLY

It might seem like common sense (and it is) but only run your dishwasher and clothes washer when they are fully loaded. Less loads equals less energy and water usage which equals more money back in your pocket. To get the most efficiency out of your dishwasher check and clear its drain after each load. Avoid the heat-dry setting and air-dry dishes instead and you can reduce your dishwashers energy usage by 15-50%. Pre-rinsing dishes can use up to 20 gallons of water. Try scraping dishes before adding them to the dishwasher.
With your washing machine, use cold water whenever possible. About 90% of the energy used in clothes washing goes to heating water. Pre-soak heavily soiled garments to avoid rewashing. You can save money by drying clothes smarter too! Line-drying clothes whenever possible can save you as much as 5% on your dryers energy costs. Additionally, dry like fabrics together (eg: put towels all in one load) and make sure to always clean out your dryers vents and lint filters for maximum efficiency.

In all cases, try using washers and dryers (especially dishwashers) in the evening, after 7pm, when energy usage is lower, to maximize savings
