Karen Douglas

Karen Douglas was appointed Chairperson of the California Energy Commission by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in February 2008. An attorney with a strong focus on the environment, from 2005 to her appointment, she worked on a wide variety of natural resource and environmental protection issues. Ms. Douglas served as Director of the California Climate Initiative at the Environmental Defense Fund, and she also spent four years at the Planning and Conservation League as Natural Resources Director, General Counsel, and acting Executive Director. She has worked on projects such as the Imperial Irrigation District, San Diego water transfer, forest policy, and the California Environmental Quality Act. Ms. Douglas graduated from Stanford Law School in 2001, and she holds a Masters Degree in public policy from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
